Adiós Plastic Lunch Baggies – Hello to Semilla (reusable!) Snack Bags!
This product is precisely one of the reasons we wanted a blog – - to share important, environmentally-kind finds. We are doubly proud to note that these green goodies are manufactured right here in our own San Diego backyard!
So what are Semilla Snack Bags? They are something I have been waiting to see for a long time now – fun, funky food carriers that are REUSABLE! Talk about reducing your footprint! Truly, can you think of anything quite as wasteful as one-use plastic baggies? Not only are landfills everywhere breathing a sigh of relief, our parks, beaches and schools are rejoicing as they anticipate eventual and complete emancipation from snack and lunch-time litter. Trust me – as a public school employee and outdoor enthusiast – I know of what I speak … that is, it is IMPERATIVE we reduce (read: eliminate) disposable food containers. (If you are going to dream, dream BIG!)
We saw these little beauties while gracing our most-favorite, health-oriented grocery store, Jimbo’s Naturally. Kev was bee-lining toward the vegan pastries when I got sidelined by the Semilla display. The cool fabrics first drew my attention. Once I figured out these were reusable snack carriers, I snagged my favorite pattern and plunked two into our basket.
As we sat down to an impromptu Jimbo’s deli lunch (Daiya Cheese, Veggie and Lone Star Tofu Pannini with raw Broccoli Sesame Salad), I retrieved my newest purchases (a Chiquita Snack Bag and a Snack Circle) and became even more delighted as I read the product details on the printed-on-recycled-paper-with-soy-ink tag; highlights include: machine washable, BPA, phthalate free and lead FREE non-toxic lining, and 100% cotton OR 55% hemp/organic cotton blend exterior. Did I mention these are made locally, in San Diego? I did? All right then.
Their current line of products include: Snack Sets, Snack Bags, Snack Circles, Lunch Bags, Snack Kits and Stainless Steel Containers (Chiquita and Grande sizes). And, 100% of the reviews currently posted on their website are 5-stars.
Yes, it is early July – BUT – and I am sure most moms would agree – it’s never too soon to be thinking about back-to-school – August is truly around the corner. Not to mention how GREAT these would be – right here, right now – for summer fun beach days, play dates, picnics and all the rest this season holds.
To quote Semilla – “Plant the seed to conserve, one snack at a time!”
